Donor Story
Carrying on a Legacy
A 15-year relationship with the Foundation continues
Patient care at Lakeridge Health has benefitted greatly from the generosity of the late Maurice Rollins.
Mr. Rollins was an influential businessperson who was prominent in the housing and hospitality industries. Through his interest in creating high-quality retirement communities, he brought The Carriage House Retirement Residence to Oshawa.
Mr. Rollins’ passion for philanthropy was quickly embraced by his businesses. Along the way, he was honoured to have received the Ontario Medal for Good Citizenship. We sadly lost Mr. Rollins in June 2021, but his legacy of philanthropy will live on.
Carriage House has honoured Mr. Rollins’ commitment to communities throughout its 15-year relationship with Lakeridge Health Foundation. As part of this, Carriage House has kindly supported cancer care at Lakeridge Health through Our Cancer Campaign. Carriage House’s generosity is ensuring the R.S. McLaughlin Durham Regional Cancer Centre can continue to deliver a full range of cancer care to nearly 18,000 people annually in Durham Region and beyond. This includes investing in equipment, technology, research and education for our medical professionals.
Today, Carriage House is supporting Lakeridge Health’s newest innovation – a Centre of Excellence in Robotic Surgery. The arrival of the da Vinci Surgical System is the biggest surgical innovation at our Hospital in over a decade. This exciting step forward will enable our Hospital to be the only robotic surgery centre between Toronto and Kingston.
We are most grateful to Maurice Rollins, his family, and the team at Carriage House for their community-focused approach to philanthropy. Because of their kindness, Lakeridge Health Foundation can continue to provide our community with exceptional health care, close to home.
